Since the beginning of the year, I have been on a #mombreak . I would say this is my way of taking a step back from all the crafts, the events, the socializing, and a major cut in time spent online. A time to reflect on what’s important. Really important.

This was a necessary step as I was struggling with my health, and needed to reset. In order to really reset, you basically have to get back to basics. This meant for me taking care of my people, and taking care of myself. It was not easy by any means. I felt guilty about turning people down when asked to do something. I felt slightly gross walking around with little makeup and pulled back hair. Also, I felt like I wasn’t keeping up with my kids needs; crafting, baking, playdating. But I will say that I didn’t feel as guilty about cutting back my time on social media.

Over the last year I have had plenty of time to reflect on what I want for myself, and understanding how I want to use social media, or represent myself on social media, was a large concern. So, I disabled my account last year, and as of this post, it’s still disabled. I wanted to reflect on what I would feel if I did not engage in the comparison game each day. I have to tell you that it does wonders for your self-esteem.

Not comparing what pictures are good, or captions are clever, or how many likes you have (or instagram allows you to have), was nerve wracking at first, but it didn’t take long to feel unburdened by it all. Of course, I indulge in looking at instagram to keep with my close friends, but as an influencer, or wannabe influencer, it was nice to not have to wake up and like everyone else’s posts, just so they will like mine. In my stalking, I can see that the bigger influencer accounts are even bigger, but they also are posting several times a day, and putting a ton of effort into their accounts. I just hope that they have done the math on how much they are getting paid hourly via affiliate sales or brand deals. Hopefully, it’s enough to warrant the level of effort.

But here I am, writing again. I think that my conclusion was that the writing and the social posting was a creative outlet for me. However, I just need to do on my terms. Posting weekly or occasionally is all I can do. Anything more than that feels pressured, and for what? Its not like I’m landing major brand deals with Nordstrom 🙂

In addition, I’ve decided that I am going to work on the following the remainder of the year:

  1. Provide service for my loved ones
  2. Maintain a healthy lifestyle
  3. Work on growing a business through Arbonne
  4. Keep a healthy home environment
  5. Find community service opportunities

In a few words, my time to reflect helped me realize that keeping focus on my home and my family is essential, and all too often I sign up to do things that don’t service them. (and they just distract me) Focusing on something that can help my family, such as a business, and setting a better example of giving back to others is the best thing I can do for all of us. So beyond just doing the laundry and dishes, I want to service them by creating a better environment. By providing for my family, I will end up healthier and happier. It’s all about family.

I look forward to working on my new goals, and hope to continue to have the time to share fun ideas, style tips, and thoughts with all of you. If you’ve been feeling a little out of sorts, then take a break from all the online/offline socializing and take time to reflect on what you feel is important for you. It’s a great way to reset.
